3 Creative Ways to Stay Hydrated This Summer

Breative Ways to Stay Hydrated This SummerI’m sure you’ve heard it plenty of times, but drinking water and staying hydrated benefits you in basically every way possible.

Some of the benefits of hydrating include aiding in weight loss efforts, improving your skin’s complexion by keeping it soft, smooth, and glowing, boosting your immune system, flushing out bad toxins, increasing your energy levels, and keeping your brain sharp and alert.

Let’s face it, the list goes on and on.

On average, women need about 11 cups of water per day while men need about 15 cups. But, drinking glass after glass of plain ol’ water can get quite boring. So what are you supposed to do to ensure that you are getting enough hydration throughout the day?

Here are 3 creative ways to stay hydrated this summer:

#1 Infuse Your Water

Regular H2O can easily be transformed into fun and flavorful water simply by adding some fruits and/or vegetables into the mix. Add some flavor by tossing in your favorites such as watermelon, strawberries, blueberries, kiwis or basically whatever your heart desires. Add the ingredients and leave it in the refrigerator overnight to increase your flavor intake. To step up your game even further, try using sparkling water instead of flat water.

For our favorite recipe, combine:

  • 2 cups of sparkling water
  • 1 cup of ice
  • 1 cup of raspberries, whole
  • 1 handful of mint leaves

Yum!

#2 Make a Smoothie

Smoothies are a great way for making sure you’re getting your daily recommended water intake. Choose your favorite smoothie recipe but instead of adding the thickeners that you normally use such as yogurt or milk, replace them with water or coconut water instead. This will ensure that you’re getting enough water while cutting some of the calories as well.

For our favorite hydrating smoothie, blend:

  • 1 cup of coconut water
  • 2 cups of pineapple
  • 2 cups of mango
  • 4 cups of seeded watermelon
  • 1 handful of ice

Refreshing!

#3 Eat Your Way to Hydration

Who says you can’t get your daily water intake from food? Research has found that it is recommended that we should be getting about 20% of our daily recommended water intake from food. There are plenty of delicious foods available that provide excellent hydration benefits including:

  • Soups such as chicken noodle or tomato basil
  • Salads with lots of mixed greens
  • Applesauce
  • Fruits such as watermelon, cantaloupe or pineapple
  • Popsicles
  • Vegetables such as bell peppers, cucumbers or carrots
  • Yogurt

Whatever you choose, make sure it’s composed of a high percentage of water so you are reaping the full benefits of hydration.
