What Is Laser Skin Resurfacing?
The carbon dioxide (CO2) laser is the ultimate technology for laser skin resurfacing. The CO2 laser effectively removes the outer, damaged layers of skin to reveal the softer, smoother underlying skin. The latest advancements in the technology allows high energy amplified beams of light to be pulsed or scattered at a very fast rate thereby minimizing heat damage to the skin. This enables deeper penetration to the skin for more effective removal of deep lines and wrinkles.
Is Laser Skin Resurfacing Right for Me?
Aging, exposure to sun and wind, gravity, and years of friendly smiles and other repeated expressions create lines and wrinkles that we want to reverse. Many of us have suffered with skin discolorations, pigment irregularities, and acne scars, which we would love to correct. If you can relate, you are most likely a good candidate for CO2 laser skin resurfacing.

How Is Laser Skin Resurfacing Performed?
The CO2 laser technology provides Dr. Shumway with precise control over the exfoliation process as it gently vaporizes the outer layer of damaged skin revealing the smooth, fresh, tightened skin below. Deep lines and wrinkles are removed in a rapid, bloodless process. Laser skin resurfacing can be performed with local anesthesia if limited areas are treated, while IV sedation is preferred with full face resurfacing.
On the Road to Recovery
During the first few days following the procedure, your skin will weep while new collagen is formed to rebuild the skin. We will prescribe ointment to keep the treated areas moist, and a Silon bandage (resembling breathable plastic wrap) will be required for the first 24-48 hours. Your fresh new skin will have a reddish or pinkish quality which will fade in a few weeks. The redness can be covered with cosmetics until it disappears. Some patients experience some mild swelling around the eyes temporarily. The full impact of your treatment will be obvious a few months following the procedure and will likely last for years to come. Many patients say the laser erased 10 years in just over an hour!
