What Is an Eyelid Lift?
As we age, tiny fat deposits can begin to appear around the eyes and skin begins to lose its elasticity. This can result in excess skin around the eyes, wrinkles, puffiness, and those under-the-eye “bags”.
An eyelid lift, also known as blepharoplasty or eyelid rejuvenation surgery, is a successful way to correct these problems. The procedure involves removing the fatty deposits and potentially small amounts of muscle and skin around the eyes. The result is looking rested, refreshed, and alert.
Blepharoplasty may also be performed to treat ptosis, a medical condition in which the eyelids droop because of weak muscles or nerve damage. This condition causes the eyelids to sag and obstruct vision.
Is an Eyelid Lift Right For Me?
There are many reasons that you might opt for an eyelid lift: puffy eyelids, excess eyelid skin, under-eye bags, or impaired vision. Whatever the reason, it’s important that you have realistic expectations and are in good physical health.
Many surgeons agree that the “ideal” age for blepharoplasty patients is 35 or older; however, an eye lift may be appropriate for younger patients in certain circumstances.

How an Eyelid Surgery Is Performed
For an upper eyelid lift, incisions are made on the natural folds and creases of the lids. Excess fat, muscle, and extra skin are removed through the incisions. Tiny sutures are used to close the incisions.
In lower eyelid surgery, the procedure is similar; however, incisions are made along the lash line or inside the lower eyelid.
How Long Will It Take to Heal?
After your eyelid lift, you can expect to experience some swelling, numbness, and bruising. Some patients also report mild to heavy tearing, double vision, and sensitivity to light.
As time goes by and you continue to heal, it is important that you protect your eyes from the sun – now you have an excuse to buy those designer sunglasses you’ve been eyeing! Scarring may take three to six months to fade.
How Much Does Eyelid Surgery Cost in San Diego and La Jolla, CA?
The cost of your eyelid surgery may be covered by your insurance if your sagging eyelids interfere with your vision, although it is uncommon for insurance companies to cover the procedure. We offer payment plans and work closely with CareCredit™ to help you with the cost of your eyelid surgery.
