Meet Dr. Shumway
I'm Dr. Robert A. Shumway, MD FACS. I'm here to help you make your goals fulfilled and realistic. And also want to be a physician that cares and looks after your healthcare for the rest of your life. I think one of the most important things that I've contributed to most people is their health and that includes, not only their physical beauty and appearance, but also their mental and physical health with regards to exercise, diet and doing things that make a difference in people overall wellbeing.
I was born in 1956 in Phoenix. My father was a general and thoracic surgeon. As far as being a three year old, I would follow him around the hospital. I had the opportunity, again, as a child to be exposed to a medical surgical practice. I've been preforming and practicing cosmetic surgery for over 25 years. So, I have a lot of training in not only surgery and in body, breast and extremity surgery, but also head and neck surgery, facial plastic, and reconstructive surgery, general cosmetic surgery, facial cosmetic surgery, and also surgery of cosmetic lasers.
So I worked with dermatologists for three years, as well. And have a lot of dermatologic experience, which really is really important as far as the cosmetic scene's concerned. Patients always have something that they want to work on. Haven't met a perfect person yet, even the most notable Hollywood people who we worked on when I was working in Beverly Hills, always had something they didn't like. Trying to get into peoples head, it's like doing psychic surgery where you're working on a persons persona and also their character.
There are certain things that surgeons can do and there are certain things that we can do medically, such as using bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. And we can help people with their diet, exercise sleep patterns. We can help them in the way they carry themselves and in their overall sociality, their financial picture changes. They're able to interact better with people. And most importantly, I think it's connecting. Once you're able to connect with people, then people will trust you and that's really part of cosmetic surgery.
As I went through my training at Arizona, Duke and other places, it was always in mind that I wanted to make the surgery do better. I wanted to make the closures look perfect. I wanted the people to heal well and that they go a nice result. I feel it is always under promise things and over achieve. If you can overachieve what you've accomplished, then your patient's happy, and generally, the surgeon should be happy. If you're a person who wants to have a better life and who's motivated in order to go through, maybe small procedures versus larger ones, that's something that we determined when you come in for a consultation.
We encourage you to come in so we can talk with you and find out what expectations that you have. What kinds of goals you have. And what three things are the most important aspects of your life, see if we can hit at least two of those and improve it by doing cosmetic medicine, cosmetic surgery her at Shumway Cosmetic Surgery
